- go to catalog > product-filter
- create a new filter if there isn't one
- add this filter to the startpage by selecting the filter from the dropdown and cklicking 'add'
- open the dropdown: the templates 'checkboxes.html' and 'multiselect.html' are the same, or rather the 'multiselect'-checkbox uses the template of the 'checkboxes'-template, whereas the 'real' 'multiselect'-template isn't used in the shop since a few versions ago (check both templates in your frontend to be sure!)
- the option 'multiselect.html' can therefore be removed
